If you’ve recently received anti-wrinkle injections using botulinum toxin, following the right aftercare steps can help you get the most from your treatment and minimise unwanted side effects.
Anti-wrinkle injections work by targeting the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. While results gradually develop over several days, your aftercare plays a key role in supporting both comfort and outcome.

Immediately After Your Anti-Wrinkle Appointment
As with any medical procedure, anti-wrinkle treatments carry risks. These may include, but are not limited to:
→ Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness around the injection sites
→ Bruising, which may take 1–2 weeks to fully resolve
→ A mild headache — this is more common after your first anti-wrinkle treatment
These effects are typically mild and temporary. If pain relief is needed, paracetamol is generally considered safe — always follow directions and consult your clinician if unsure. Recovery experiences and outcomes can vary between individuals, and follow-up care may be required.

When to Contact the Clinic
Please contact your clinician immediately if you experience the following:
→ Drooping of the eyelid, eyebrow, or mouth (ptosis)
→ Prolonged redness, heat, or swelling at the injection site
→ Visual disturbances, difficulty swallowing, or any unusual symptoms
→ A persistent burning or itchy sensation in the treated area
If you have urgent concerns, please contact 000 or your local hospital.
For non-urgent concerns, please contact our clinic on 0405 130 108 or book a review appointment.
When Will I See Results from Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
Most clients begin to notice the softening of lines within 3 to 5 days, with the full effect of the botulinum toxin typically visible by day 14.
The treatment reaches peak effect around 2 weeks, with visible improvements in areas like forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Results will gradually wear off over time depending on your metabolism, muscle movement, and treatment plan.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections Aftercare Guide
For the First 4–6 Hours After Treatment:
Stay upright (avoid lying down or bending forward)
Keep the treatment area clean
Do not touch, rub, or massage the treated areas
Avoid applying makeup, or use only mineral makeup with a clean brush
Refrain from exercise, saunas, or anything that causes excessive heat or sweating
Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen)
For the First 3 Days:
Avoid face-down massages
Limit direct sun exposure
Refrain from high-intensity workouts or saunas
For the First 14 Days:
Avoid any other aesthetic or beauty treatments to the treated areas (e.g. waxing, facials, skin peels, laser hair removal)
Apply a high-quality SPF daily to protect your skin
Follow-Up Appointments
A review appointment is typically scheduled around 2 weeks after your initial treatment. This allows your clinician to assess your results and, if needed, make subtle refinements. Adjustments are only made where clinically appropriate, based on your treatment response.
Booking your review within the recommended timeframe helps maintain consistency and optimal results.
Trust in Professional Care
All anti-wrinkle treatments at The Glow Co. Aesthetics are performed by qualified Registered Nurses following consultation with a prescribing medical practitioner. Your comfort, safety, and aesthetic outcomes are our priority.
