Dermal Filler Aftercare:

If you've recently had dermal filler injections using hyaluronic acid-based products, proper aftercare is essential to minimise swelling, support healing, and help you feel comfortable as your results settle in.

Dermal fillers are commonly used to restore volume, enhance facial contours, and smooth static lines. While results can often be seen immediately, swelling and minor bruising are normal in the hours and days following treatment.

Dermal Filler Aftercare Instructions

In the First 24 Hours:

  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated areas

  • Refrain from applying makeup directly over injection sites

  • Skip alcohol and blood-thinning medications (like aspirin or ibuprofen)

  • Avoid saunas, hot showers, and strenuous exercise

  • Stay upright for at least 4 hours post-treatment

In the First 3 Days:

  • Use a cold compress to reduce swelling (light pressure only, wrapped in a cloth)

  • Sleep with your head slightly elevated to minimise puffiness

  • Avoid dental work or vaccinations, which may increase inflammation

  • Drink plenty of water to support hydration and healing

In the First 2 Weeks:

  • Avoid facial treatments such as laser, peels, or microneedling

  • Delay face-down massages or other pressure to the face

  • Wear SPF daily to protect the treated areas

  • Be patient — swelling may temporarily distort symmetry before settling

What to Expect After Dermal Filler Injections

As with any medical procedure, dermal filler treatment carry risks. These may include, but are not limited to:

 → redness, bruising or bleeding

→ temporary discomfort, pain or swelling at or around the treatment site

 itching or skin discoloration

vascular occlusion (blocked blood vessel that can lead to skin tissue death)

→ double vision or permanent blindness

→ lumps (nodules) forming under the skin

 allergic or inflammatory reactions

→ weakness of facial, head or neck muscles, which can cause difficulty swallowing or speaking

 → permanent disfigurement and scarring

Recovery experiences and outcomes can vary between individuals, and follow-up care may be required.

When to Contact the Clinic

Please contact us immediately if you notice:

→ Severe or increasing pain

→ Skin that becomes pale, white, or dusky (blanching)

→ Areas that feel cold, firm, or look mottled

→ Prolonged or worsening swelling

→ Signs of infection (redness, heat, discharge, or fever)

These symptoms could indicate a vascular issue or delayed reaction and must be assessed promptly.

Follow-Up and Refinement

A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled around 2 weeks post-treatment. This allows your clinician to assess how the filler has settled and determine whether any refinements are needed.

Filler integration can take time, and the goal is always a balanced enhancement — not overcorrection.
